Application

Before you app
Applications are always open, but are processed every other Saturday. You can apply for any character from any canon as an OU or AU. You can also apply for an OCs. Be sure to copy the correct form below when you go to write your app.

Currently there can be only one version of each character within the Bastion. That character can be either OU or AU. This is subject to change at a later date.

The character limit is currently three. You can app up to two characters from the same canon, so long as the characters do not interact in canon and would not interact within the game. Exceptions to this rule will be allowed for special cases, so if you think you have a possible exception please contact a mod about it.

If you would like to app a fourth character, you must have passed the previous two ACs in order to do so. If you did not pass the previous two ACs, then we will reject your application.

Apps will be read in the order they are posted. If two people app the same character, we will make a decision on the first application before reading the second. The only exception to this rule is in the case of a reserve, where we will read the app from whoever has the reserve first. There are no app challenges.

Please read the rules, FAQ, and setting pages before applying. Also be sure to check the reserves page and taken page.

Please finish your app before posting. Once you are finished, post your application here. If you need more than one comment to post it, then respond to your first comment to finish your application.

If your application is accepted, be sure to read all the information and follow all of the steps in the acceptance post. If we ask you for revisions, you will have 72 hours to post those revisions. If you are rejected, you must wait two weeks before applying again.

As a note, OCs will be held to high standards. Do not skimp on details in any section of the application if you are planning to app an OC.

Re: Paarthurnax // Skyrim // OU

Summary:
The first thing that should be established is that dragons in Skyrim are somewhat different compared to dragons in other series and traditional tales. They are still giant winged lizards, and breathing fire is in their skillset. In Skyrim, they just happen to refer to themselves as 'dovah'. However, where some stories treat dragons as nothing but mindless animals and where others treat them as sentient beings who can choose their path, the entire dovah race is very much set in their natural urges. Paarthurnax explains this very clearly to the player character at some point in the main quest. In them, every dragon has an urge to dominate and destroy. History has proven this quite true, as dov were once the ruling race of all sentient creatures. Even Paarthurnax himself is not exempt from this and has only gained such calm from thousands of years of meditation. Dov are perhaps not quite unique in their conditional immortality (death coming to them only through Dragonrend and their souls being absorbed), but they are unique in their powers. Instead of just breathing fire, dov cause damage and change the weather by using their own language. Because of this, the language of dovah is very important to them and they have their own concept of honor. This is shown in how two dragons meet one another for the first time where they demonstrate the strength of their Voice, their Thu'um, by using it on one another.

Knowing such facts about the dov, it should be no surprise that they considered almost every single other race to be vastly inferior. Aeons ago, they took this thought to the extreme and made themselves rulers over human, elf, Khajit, and Argonian lands. They did this as a united group, lead under a fearsome and extremely powerful dovah who would one day be known as the World Eater- Alduin. It should be noted that to Paarthurnax, Alduin was not only his leader. Paarthurnax was one of Alduin's trusted lieutenants and, even more importantly, his brother. They cared for one another, or at least this is what can be deduced from conversations held with Paarthurnax in the future where he seems regretful of what things have come to.

It started when Alduin began to become too intoxicated with his power. He began to proclaim himself a god: the first-born of Akatosh, the mightiest of the gods. Some of the other dov seemed as though they believed such claims, or perhaps they simply feared Alduin's strength. Some sources say that the god Kyne sent Paarthurnax down to the earth to help the mortals, but the voah himself says otherwise. Such claims disconcerted him and made him turn against his brother before things could get much worse. It was around this time that those races the dov had enslaved started to desire rebellion and freedom. With that in mind, Paarthurnax and a select few others decided to side with the humans. In the beginning, it seemed as though Paarthurnax was simply doing what was practical.

In time, however, he began to actually care for a few of these humans and called them his true friends: Gormlaith Golden-Hilt, Hakon One-Eye, and Felldir the Old. These rebel dov began to teach the humans how to use their language with dragon shouts, the Thu'um. Paarthurnax, however, went one step further and helped his friends craft a new Thu'um. It was something he could not speak himself: Joor Zah Frul. Dragonrend. As immortal beings, dragons could not understand the concept of mortality, of true death. Dragonrend would change that, forcing them to understand, tearing at their soul and breaking their concentration so they could no longer keep themselves in the air. Encouraging those who he had done such wrong against was not wise. However, Paarthurnax cared so deeply and trusted these humans so much that he assisted them with this anyway. His truth and friendship was rewarded, and his human friends used this new Thu'um to help take down Alduin.

With Paarthurnax and a few other dragons sided with the humans, the Dragon War happened. Atop the tallest point in Skyrim, the Throat of the World, the humans confronted Alduin. They forced him down to the snow where he would have to face them head on. They sacrificed their lives in fighting against him, and succeeded in using a powerful artifact known as an Elder Scroll. This forced Alduin through time so that he would not be seen on the mortal plane for many years. By the time he reappeared, a hero would have been born that could face him. Paarthurnax knew his brother would appear once more. He knew where it would happen. However, he did not know when, so he decided that it would be a part of his atonement for all the crimes he did against mortalkind.

Of course, Paarthurnax's reputation preceded him. He knew that no mortal would truly trust someone like him who had done the kinds of things he had done against their various races. He decided he would spend his time in isolation upon the Throat of the World, meditating on just what his language truly meant and what it should truly be used for. He began to focus on a creed created by a mortal man named Jurgen Windcaller, who stated that the Thu'um was only to be used for the praise and glory of the gods instead of personal gain and pride. Meditating on such teachings also helped Paarthurnax learn how to control his inner destructive nature. It never truly left him, but he would no longer be a slave to his own base desires. By constantly meditating on these teachings, he eventually became to be the grandmaster of the Greybeards, a group of mortal men who used the Thu'um in accordance with Windcaller's teachings. He did this while mostly remaining on the Throat of the World... The place he also knew where his brother would inevitably return to, whenever he finally made his appearance on the earth once more. Occasionally, he leaves his place to spread his wings, eat, and perhaps interact very rarely (more and more as centuries pass) with other dov. He even spoke with the enslaved dovah Numinex, who could no longer remember his own name and whose entrapment hurt Paarthurnax to see. Eventually, however, he always returned back to the Throat of the World to meditate, repent, and wait.

Eventually, his patience pays off. Alduin indeed returns, but his presence is not the only thing of important news. There is one born of mortal flesh with the soul of a dragon within her who makes her appearance in Skyrim and realizes just what she is. The Greybeards call her, have her prove her worth, and soon she makes her way up to the Throat of the World past blizzards and cliffs so that she may speak with the Grandmaster of their order. Paarthurnax awaits her, and deals with her surprise patiently. In fact, on some level, he is relieved to see her. The physical shell may be that of a mortal Dunmer woman, but she has the soul of a dragon inside of her. She is dovahkin, and she is the most he has seen in thousands of years. They speak for some time, with him asking her philosophical inquiries so that she may look at her reasons and choices more deeply. Eventually, she asks him the location of the Elder Scroll, and he tells her what she needs to know. It is more than that simple knowledge he gives her. Paarthurnax also helps her meditate on the language she now wields, lets her truly understand the words which make up parts of the Thu'um so that they may affect her and her outlook.

Soon, she left again to continue her quest. In what seemed like such a short time, she returned once again with the Elder Scroll in her possession. Using it drew Alduin back to the very place where he was once fought against so long ago. Just like that time, Paarthurnax once against fought against his brother so that the Dragonborn could finish him. Alduin escaped, however, and Paarthurnax was left to wait while the Dragonborn tried to locate the World Eater's hiding place. His place waiting ensured that he could hear word spread amongst the dov. After all, they had their own ideas of honor, and to run away from a battle when you were supposed to stay with it to the end... He could tell where the winds were turning, and they were not in his brother's favor.

A part of him was not surprised when the Dragonborn soon visited him again, and told him of the Blades. He knew them, of course, those who used to be infamous as dov slayers and who would surely remember his centuries old crimes against the mortal races. It was not surprising that they would not trust him, and he informed the Dragonborn of this. He explained how innate the desire to conquer and destroy was in a dragon, and how it had never left him even after so many years, after so many experiences. The only thing keeping him in check was his own will and meditating every day. It would not have been strange for the Dragonborn to fulfill her duty and kill him right there. He would have understood, and exposed his heart for her arrows. However, she did not end his life. Instead, she traveled to find his brother, and ended his.

Somehow, she returned to them all atop the Throat of the World, returned from a place that no other dovah would probably ever see. It was not just himself that waited for her, however. All of his other kin awaited as well. After all, the Dragonborn had bested the strongest amongst them all. She had more than shown the strength of her Thu'um. He spoke with her for a short while, of his feelings of loss for his foolish and sad brother before apologizing. They all acknowledge her strength and soon take off. Paarthurnax explains how he wishes to convince the other dov to take up the Way of the Voice, and flies off. However, whenever she wished to meet him, he could always be found on the Throat of the World, willing to meditate and talk.

His entire history, from his realization that he needed to stop his brother to wishing that other dov would listen to his talk of peace, should give a pretty decent idea of what kind of individual Paarthurnax is. Driving it home further is this quote, given when he speaks to the Dragonborn of the Blades wanting him dead:

"What is better? To be born good, or to overcome your evil nature through great effort?"

I believe this says a lot about Paarthurnax's character, what's at the core of him. From the very beginning, it is very clear that he is a philosophical person. Along with the above quote, he also asks the Dragonborn about why the world should be saved and makes them think about the choices they make, the bigger picture of things. He does not do this unkindly, as though to make them doubt themself. He simply wishes for the Dragonborn to think, on their reasons and actions. Know yourself before all else. For someone who has nothing but time to think on himself and his actions, it is only logical that Paarthurnax would see the value in such knowledge. He seems like he wishes to help as much as he can, telling the Dragonborn about the mortal made Dragonrend shout and where he could possibly find the Elder Scroll. He even helps the Dragonborn meditate on the Shouts, something which gives special effects to their body. Such patience and goodwill make it hard to believe that Paarthunax once did truly horrible deeds and that he has to make a true effort every day not to do them once more.

This shows two other very important parts of him. For one thing, Paarthurnax is in possession of an extremely powerful will. When he dedicates himself to something, he does it. He disagrees with the path his brother is taking, so he helps the humans start a rebellion even though it could eventually end his life as well. He no longer wishes to destroy, so he isolates him self and becomes so involved with a creed preaching peace that he ends up the grandmaster of a temple of monks. Another side of him that is shown is how kind he can truly be. Certainly he admits that all dragons are destroyers in their true nature... But even as someone who believe himself to be that at his core, Paarthurnax still shows great sadness that his brother's life had to be taken away, and he still considers those humans from aeons ago to be some of his truest friends.

Basically, Paarthurnax is a very old dragon who has learned a lot in his many years of living. He has inspected his own actions and meditated on the most important aspect of his people. He wishes for his wisdom to be passed on, so that none might share the fate of his brother and his friends. For a creature that claims his kind are at their base destructive and vicious, Paarthurnax is capable of quiet acts of good.

Character name: Axel
Series: Kingdom Hearts II
Canon point: Post-Death
Summary:
Let's begin by explaining this: Axel is a Nobody.

Nobodies are beings similar to the Heartless in that they are born without hearts; however, unlike their Heartless counterparts, Nobodies are intelligent, independent creatures. Born when a human loses their heart to the Heartless, Nobodies are devoid of emotion and the ability to feel. However, born with both the mind and soul, Nobodies make up for their losses by boasting cunning strategic abilities, able to still express themselves using what memories they have of past emotions. With their extraordinary will power and these strong memories, Nobodies might seem to some, the perfect weapon. Hard to believe, then, beneath their cold exterior lies a creature desperate for the heart it once lost. Some express this desperation more than others, some say they'd prefer to be without their heart at all, but Axel, we find, we just can't quite understand.

All we know is that he wants to be remembered.

Metaphorically, the man is a maze no matter which point in canon we pull him from; he's a convoluted twist of slopes and dead ends. Like all Nobodies, Axel is a skilled actor who tricks others through use of excellent manipulation—Playful quips, taunting riddles and non sequitors are just a few of the tools in his arsenal. As for what he uses them for, well, some might argue he uses them just for fun, or because he actually has an unknown ulterior motive. As Jiminy Cricket and even Axel's fellow colleagues agree, Axel is an enigma. Considering the cocky personality he radiates, someone might never think him an introvert, but the truth is, well, he really is. Axel regularly writes in his journal about deep, pestering thoughts involving friendship and the heart, and even explains his preference for ambiguity over confrontation—Interesting considering his obvious joy in being with Roxas and Xion whenever he has the chance. Due to these imposing and mysterious characteristics, Axel happens to be one of those dodgy, shady, and overall complex people you have to be able to deal with to appreciate, though most wouldn't want to stick around for too long to bother. It makes sense, then, why he would have more enemies than friends. If you really want to put it this way, then compare Axel to caviar; he's an acquired taste only the bold dare approach. He's just a complicated character. Odd, when you consider Axel himself states he hates complications.

Strangely, in stark contrast to some incredibly passive colleagues like Saix, Marluxia, or Xaldin, Axel displays a tangible and unusually humane personality. But you might think, of course he does; if he's really the manipulative bastard you said he is, then why wouldn't he? Well, there's one key factor in Axel's surge of "normal" behavior, and that so happens to be Roxas, the thirteenth member of the Organization, Axel's protege, and ultimately Axel's best friend. Truthfully, Axel doesn't display such a wide spectrum of emotions—happiness, anger, sadness—until we see him with Roxas. During his several months away at Castle Oblivion, for example, Axel reverts to a callous persona which ruthlessly manipulates colleagues and heroes alike towards elimination or turmoil, but when he returns to find Roxas has worried about him, thinking him dead, what does Axel do? He takes the kid for their routine ice cream, chit chat, and genuine laughter. In contrast, Axel is also clearly shaken by Roxas' departure from the Organization and their friendship to the point at which he risks his life just to see his best friend again. Over the course of 358/2 Days, players see Axel's inner turmoil as he deals with this emotional growth and his stubborn individuality constantly butting heads. Does he care or doesn't he? Would he rather work for himself, or would he rather work for those he holds dear? One can only assume.

At times Axel seems to be a bit overconfident and even conceited. Not one to overreact and with his occasional devil-may-care attitude, he appears to carry himself with high regard and low concern for what other people think about him. Truth be told, he fancies giving an attitude to pull other people’s strings and he revels in their negative reactions as seen when he releases Namine in Castle Oblivion and he feels a twitch of emotion in his chest. However, Axel does know when to buckle down and be serious, namely for certain people. This leads into one of Axel's most powerful traits: loyalty. Yes, it would be dangerous to trust him, but if one does pose a definite subject of interest or 'affection' to him for whatever magical reason (i.e. Roxas/Xion), then they will indefinitely earn not only his loyalty, but his entire being. Seriously, he will sacrifice anything for the sake of his loved ones and eventually he does so in destroying himself for both Sora and Roxas' lives. Axel may never in his life admit to having an inner Teddy bear, but if you were to get to know him well enough, you would be able to see it clear as day, right there on his sleeve.

Axel's internal conflict during Roxas' time in the Organization and after shows off his true colors. For the first time towards the end of 358/2 Days through Kingdom Hearts II, Axel offers more pieces to his puzzle, most notably how he thinks and why. And, really, he thinks a lot. After all, he has to with all the hullabaloo he stirs up. During Kingdom Hearts II Axel is all over the place kidnapping, breaking through security systems, and running from death for betraying the Organization... because he wants to see his best friend again. However, as reckless as his stunts may be, Axel does not typically think on a whim. In fact, he takes his time with elaborating and plotting and in ways this makes him patient and well-organized. That being said, Axel appreciates being in control of both himself and others, and would much rather come out of a scrape smelling like a bed of roses than showing off the red on his hands. When he loses control, however, Axel can go into a downward spiral filled with anger and despair. For example, when confronting Xion after she tries to abandon the Organization, Axel is already haunted by Roxas' departure and therefore already visibly upset to have another one of his best friends trying to escape. When he sees he cannot say or do anything to keep her from leaving, he appears both shocked, hurt, and angered. Whether he displays these emotions towards himself, Xion, or both, they exist, showing the character's great development since his first appearance in Chain of Memories.

Now how could you ever forget a guy like that?

Powers:
♪ Pyrokinesis: Axel was born with the ability to manipulate fire through the use of twin chakrams--named Eternal Flames--or without. He fights with quick agility, precision, stability, and acrobatics, though a few of his attacks take a while to perform, making him susceptible to injury. It is possible for him to turn an area of ground into lava which would lower one's health gradually; however, knocking him out would cause the lava to die. Also, Axel has a very powerful attack which prevents him from being touched--all Nobodies have this sort of strength--and this is when the surrounding area darkens, his body engulfs in fire, and he shoots a barrage of melée attacks before slamming his chakrams into the ground to create a trail of high jumping, fiery pillars.

Though Axel can be damaged by fire magic in 358/2 Days, but healed by it in previous installments, I am going off the assumption he cannot be harmed by fire. Blizzard attacks, however, will injure him greatly.

♪ Cure: Introduced in 358/2 Days, Cure magic became available to Organization members via multiplayer mode. Axel can therefore perform three levels of Cure magic--Cure, Cura, and Curaga, Curaga being the highest and most sufficient yet energy draining.

♪ Teleportation: Every member of the Organization has the ability to summon Corridors of Darkness, essentially a large amethyst and black portal, which, once summoned, warps up from the ground to transport Nobodies from point A to point B in a matter of seconds. Axel summons his with a simple raise of a hand. People with hearts would do well not to enter one of these portals due to the strength of the darkness inside -- overtime the darkness will taint their heart, overbearing it, and in turn destroy them. However, Nobody's have no such problem, so each can easily teleport themselves to various locations with little effort. In Bastion, I will be sure to adhere to the rules regarding teleportation; Axel will not be able to portal out of the world and will not be able to carry more than one person in a Corridor with him at a time.

♪ Summoning: Each member of Organization XIII commands a certain species of subordinate Nobodies which, according to their master's element or fighting style, act similarly. Aside from commanding Dusks, a lower class Nobody, Axel commands Assassin Nobodies which are circle in shape and easily warp into the ground to prevent being hit.

♪ Pressure Striking: As seen in Days, Axel can pinpoint a pressure point on someone's body and hit it with enough force to make the victim pass out. While this is only seen with him striking the back of Xion's neck hard enough to make her pass out, it is possible for him to hit other pressure points to deal the same damage.

♪ Enhanced Senses: Nobodies have a very keen sense of smell--as DiZ relates them most to hunting dogs in that sense--hearing, and eyesight for seeing better in the dark. And, if you would count it, Axel also has excellent reflexes.

♪ Speed: In the Organization Axel would probably count as one of the fastest members. Typically he's faster at running and dodging than attacking, so landing a hit may be difficult with him.

♪ Kamikaze: Most notably, Axel's greatest and most powerful ability is his Kamikaze attack which involves sacrificing his own being, or soul, to perform. This attack causes flames to engulf his body and, in turn, his body will explode and destroy opponents within a great range. Arguably, this attack would bring Axel's death, so, previously, he never executed it until his ending in Kingdom Hearts II. He will only use this attack if absolutely necessary for a loved one's protection.

Other: I see Yinza already mentioned it, but Axel and Roxas have three young chocobo chicks named Popcorn, Sunset, and Isa which they would like to bring along with them. They cannot be without their mommy and daddy, ok. Additionally, in this application I have not included any personality updates as I believe Axel has not drastically changed enough to warrant attention despite him having lived in Vatheon for quite some time; however, if the mods feel it necessary, then I will gladly edit and submit what I can as a revision. Character name: Rosethorn (born Nivalin Greenhow)
Series: Circle of Magic
Canon point: Battle Magic, just before Dokyi takes her aside to give Rosethorn her task/burden to carry

Summary: Rosethorn's history can be found here.

Rosethorn’s family background left her wary of shows of affection, at least until she trusts someone. They valued her magic, her power with plants, at least as highly as they valued Niva herself.

Rosethorn devoted years of study and effort to the extremely dangerous work of disease analysis and diagnosis. She, along with her rival Crane and four other mages, spent eight years coming up with the formula for a human essence of sorts, something that would allow them to test cures without putting anyone at risk until they had a viable treatment. Two of her fellow researchers died along the way, and one went blind. Picking apart diseases started out as the escalation of an ingredient identification contest, a game between her and Crane, but it turned into a long and difficult endeavor that only Rosethorn's stubbornness and persistence got them through. She and Crane are still some among the most respected in the field. Rosethorn wrote all of the guidelines and regulations for quarantine and disease control in her home city.

She is an Earth Temple Dedicate Initiate of the Living Circle religion. Essentially what this means is that she's dedicated herself to service of the Green Man and Mila of the Grain, as well as to Living Circle's principles. The responsibilities inherent in this include defense of temple grounds and relics as well as of any innocents seeking protection. Rosethorn hates fighting, but she's an accomplished battle mage. She prefers healing, at least when she has medicines that can do some good. There is little Rosethorn hates more than being helpless as she attempts to care for those she cannot help. Her power is limited to plants. She can work with plants directly rather than through medicines, and seeing people suffer when she can’t do the same for them is incredibly frustrating. She helps failing farms, travels when needed to investigate the death of plants on an island, and in general uses her power to help those who need it.

Rosethorn is intimidating, but her bark is worse than her bite except when someone really deserves it. Her first introduction to her foster children involved a threat to hang them by their heels in the well if they damaged anything in her garden. She would never have done it, of course. The reason she gave Briar was, "I water my plants from that well," but harming innocents also goes against Rosethorn's beliefs and vows. She's gentle with animals, the sick and wounded, and people whose suffering or fears are well-founded, but Rosethorn is still at the top of the list of people none of her charges ever want to cross.

She has little patience and no desire to curb her sharp tongue unless absolutely necessary. She once ordered an exhausted Evvy away to bed, telling her, "You know it will just annoy you to hear us negotiate with the locals. It usually does." When Evvy replied, "It annoys you too," Rosethorn answered, "Yes, but my vows say I have to be nice to people sometimes, for the good of my soul. You haven't taken vows. Scat." She's good at reading motivations and cutting through to the reasons people do things. She is able to understand other people's point of view, and she usually takes that into account before she turns her tongue on them. During her period in quarantine after discovering that one of the workers had stolen necessary medical supplies, Rosethorn explained to Briar the variety of reasons people worked in Urda’s House, the place of healing, in the poorest part of Summersea. "Some care. Some do it because it's fashionable these days to take an interest in the Mire. Some because it's the only work they can get. Between guild charity funds and the duke, they're paid a decent wage. Some cared once, but they've seen so much poverty that their hearts broke." Rosethorn tries to maintain perspective even though she will tolerate callousness or foolishness from no one.

Besides her faith, several important relationships act as anchors for Rosethorn. She has friends she values, of course, and then she has her family. Rosethorn's lover, Lark, and her foster children Briar, Tris, Sandry, and Daja mean the world to Rosethorn. There is nothing she wouldn't do for them. Rosethorn and Lark's relationship is close on a number of levels. Lark is dedicated to the same gods as Rosethorn. They share values, they share a home, and their personalities balance well, Lark's openly nurturing side contrasting with Rosethorn’s prickly intimidation until people get to know Rosethorn better. Briar is her protege as well as her foster son. He is her boy, and though they rarely verbally express affection, it's obvious to anyone with eyes. She also cares a lot for Briar's student Evvy.

Powers: "Mostly the same as Briar's" isn't an acceptable answer here, is it? Rosethorn is a green mage, her power drawn from the ambient power in plantlife. A Great Mage, there is very little she can't do with plants or things that once were plants, like wood or dried leaves.

Always Active:
Hearing plants, sensing their well-being, and being able to communicate with (and through, to another plant mage) them is a constant for Rosethorn, as natural as breathing. In fact, another ambient mage in her series, Evvy, really did describe the temporary loss of connection with her element as "like trying to take a deep breath, only to find your lungs won't open up." She can always feel plants, and through them she can also always sense and talk to fellow plant mages like her foster son, Briar.

Plants love Rosethorn. They turn toward her as she passes, as if she were the sun. They would all lean in to touch her, stretching as far as their roots will let them, if she didn't enforce a little discipline in her gardens and anywhere else she goes. None of that is a choice on Rosethorn's part, it is just inherent to her power. They can sense her emotions, and she can sense theirs. Rosethorn always knows what a plant needs and wants in order to grow to its fullest potential. She knows where plants are, she can use them to sense their environment, and they can tell her as much as they understand, with their different way of thinking, about situations in the world around them. This innate connection goes two ways though. Rosethorn can take strength, energy, and calm from plants, but she also feels it when they suffer or die. They feel it when she is angry as well as when she's happy, and they will act on their own in her defense if she doesn't talk them out of it.

3 Per Day Rule:
Rapid-grow of plants falls into this category. Rosethorn uses this in a few different situations. One is to rapidly get enough seeds to plant a larger crop. For instance, if the crops are destroyed somewhere prior to harvest, she could spend a day growing batches of barley and harvesting seeds for replanting as soon as the fields were safe again. She also uses the technique in combat with a really vicious mix of lethal thorn seeds. As a rule, she does NOT use this within her garden because true strength is sacrificed in favor of speed.

Also in this category is strengthening or restoring medicines, using her magic to make it more effective than the herbal remedies alone.

Magically banishing disease, fungus, parasites, etc. from plants is limited to 3 uses per day.

Returning wood to its living tree state can only be accomplished three times per day. She has used this to convert catapults to trees, to slow a rain of arrows by making them sprout roots or branches.

The same goes for withering wood, taking all the life from it.

Entry: Rosethorn will not be too close to the Bastion when she arrives. I wouldn't say she's in need of rescue, though. She would make it there on her own eventually, given plants and (once she's near enough) the sense of Briar to guide her, but I'd definitely welcome someone finding her along the way.

Other: Food takes care of itself here, I've read. Is there any way for a character who works with plants to get involved in that, or is it entirely self-sustaining to the point that no one ought to interfere?

Rosethorn died, briefly, of the fever caused by the blue pox. Briar flung his magical self in after her with Daja, Tris, Sandry, and Briar’s shakkan serving as anchors. Her life was saved, but a small amount of brain damage did occur. Even after regaining her speech, it is still mildly slurred, her hands have a lingering tremor, and most relevant, high altitudes tend to cause shortness of breath. Any areas of the Skyway that are higher altitude will have similar effect, and she will noticeably struggle after any exertion at all in them.

Character name: Rikki Chadwick
Series: H2O: Just Add Water
Canon point: End of Series
Summary: Rikki lived in a small resort town in Australia, unlike most of the families she was in the lowest end of things. Living in a trailer home, with her dad, who barely could keep the payment on his spot there. She was a loner, wild, and friendless, causing trouble and not caring about anything. Until she became a mermaid with two other girls, which changed her life in a million ways.

She now had friends… weird, uptight, rich friends. A secret, a super cool fun secret. And she started to get close to people again. They had to share adventures, hiding from marine biologists, evil mermaids, saving each other and the world from trouble, growing together like sisters. She met a boy, he was a bit of a rich brat until he found out they needed his help, then they got together. She knew how to rely on others, and not just rely on herself.

All the while Rikki grew up, from a wild lone wolf-fish to a mature responsible business woman. Her boyfriend bought her a cafe, she ran it and made it a success. She helped her friends, protected them, and was still fire and attitude but more controlled. She started as the most reckless with her powers, the first to suggest action without thinking, but as she grew up she… only used her powers when it was easy not to get caught.

She’s sharp under pressure, and quick witted in ways the other girls aren’t. Her years just her and her dad left her a bit more streetwise than most of the girls in town. She learned mechanics from her father, as well as some petty theft skills (nothing too over the top). However her business savvy is her best non-combat skill to fall back on.

She’s still got rebellious tendencies, relaxed and casual in the face of everything, unless given a really good reason not to talk. She’s slow to show sympathy for the suffering of another, as her way is to suffer in silence unless she knows a way for someone to help. She’s quick to speak her mind, and hates to play polite for societal reasons. This is probably part of why she was quick to embrace her cool mermaid superpowers.

Powers: All of Rikki’s powers are directly linked to a single event in her life, being magically able to transform into a Mermaid. But as this single power has several aspects to it, I’ve split them into separate powers (also because they will be treated by the game as different things).
- Mermaid Change: Rikki was turned into a mermaid when she was 15. Ten seconds of exposure to water (technically liquids with a 30% water content) causes her to change. She reverts to normal when completely dry. Fortunately her own blood/sweat/tears etc do not cause the change. During the change her clothes, hair product, hair ties, and anything else she's carrying magically vanishes, to return when she dries (neat bonus: her clothes and property are completely dry and all her stuff is undamaged by the water). In Bastion as this is a survival ability and pretty important to the character, I want this to stick around as a constant threat of happening.
- Mermaid Anatomy: In mermaid form she has a long orange scaled tail, and scale covering over her chest. Her tail is incredibly powerful and can bend steel when used to slam, and swim at great speeds (faster than a dolphin, but not by much). Lung capacity is greatly increased, being able to stay underwater for somewhere between 15-20 minutes at a time on a single breath. Also depth is no obstacle other than running out of air. As this is tied to the transforming into a mermaid and survival as a mermaid, it’s also a constant power (although her tail slam will be limited to 3 per day).
- Mermaid Magic: Mermaids also have a magical property to them, which works even in human form. Powers over water and nature. In Rikki's case its heat. Rikki can heat up water/rocks/objects or start a fire with just a gesture of her hand, and can causes lightning strikes and electrical surges. However they do require gestures, her fingers have to be free to move for this to work. In Bastion the ability to heat up non-water things is reduced so she can’t boil people alive (but can heat dry herself out of her mermaid form), her Lightning is equal to that of a regular use of Thunder. This power is active and not survival related, so three uses of heat/fire, and three of lightning per day.
- Mermaid Powers (Etc.): Mermaids are conduits of magical energies. How this can be used isn't exactly explained. There's a potion that lets mermaid's grant wishes, as an example. Rikki is very attuned to magic, at least magics attached to moons and nature. She'll likely feel big magical dangery things if they are on a massive scale, but otherwise this power doesn’t do much in canon except act as Deus Ex Plot. In Bastion this qualifies as not going to come up unless mod approval says it can be used for Deus Ex Plot reasons.
- Mermaid Lunacy: Mermaids are reactive to the light of the full moon, as well as the general state of the stars above during a full moon. It causes mermaids (human or mer form) a loss of inhibitions, impulsiveness, memory loss, and other more erratic effects (lost powers, gained powers, no real rhyme or reason to them). In Bastion (if and when there is a moon), the impacts are reduced to a lack of other celestial bodies. Looking at the moon will cause her a loss of inhibitions, impulsiveness, childishness, and memory loss until the moon cycles and the clouds cover it. (She’ll also be really pissed at whoever added a moon to the world).
- Moon Crystal: Rikki has a small necklace with a blue crystal on it. On it's own it's worthless, but with another like stone it creates a light with the same effect as moonlight (and can cause mild power outages). Mostly she wears it as a sign of friendship with two of her fellow mermaids, and it was a gift from a boy she helped avoid drowning. In game it's... a piece of rock that if someone found a way to unlock it's moon powers could do a thing or be used to make a thing... not that Rikki would part with it easily.

Entry: Rikki will manage it on her own, and generally be very surly about the process. She’ll avoid monsters and make her way to the Bastion being totally bewildered as to what happened.

Summary:~Something spoilers this way comes.~

Hope's Peak Academy was created to study talent. They invited students from across Japan with assorted skills so they could research this fairly nebulous concept. The Super High School Level Hall Monitor Kiyotaka Ishimaru might have even flourished there if it weren't for the robotic malicious bear who wanted all of the students to kill each other that took over the facility. But we might be getting a bit ahead of ourselves.

You see, once upon a time, Toranosuke Ishimaru, Kiyotaka's grandfather, was the prime minister of Japan. He was a true genius, able to do great feats with little effort. However, this caused him to not exercise the vigilance he needed to. Accusations of corruption saw him ousted from office, and he brought a mountain of debt upon his family.

Ishimaru saw this all happen as he was still very young, and developed a great resentment against the way his grandfather had lived his life. He decided that one should always put all their effort into whatever they do, and what an average person accomplishes means much more than the feats of a genius who didn't try. He pushed himself into his studies, and tried to just ignore how he never could figure out how to make buddies with his peers. (It's because he's overbearing, relentlessly straightlaced, and is unable to understand why fun is important.)

With his strong ethics and love of rules, he joined his school's disciplinary committee, rose to the top, and was eventually chosen by Hope's Peak because of the zeal he put into his position. While he was worried the school would be full of nothing but lazy geniuses, he accepted the invitation.

He woke up trapped in Hope's Peak with 14 other students. The school's apparent headmaster, Monobear, was more than happy to inform them that they would be spending the rest of their lives inside these walls! Unless, of course, one of them graduated by murdering another without the rest of the class managing to figure out. If they were found out, the murderer would be executed, and if they weren't everyone else would be.

In this upsetting situation, Ishimaru quickly tried to claim some leadership but was mostly just seen as overbearing. Still, the breakfast meetings that were set up did at least seem to calm some nerves- only to be shattered again when the first body was found and the first class trial held.

It's after this that the calamity would happen. But if things continued was they would, Ishimaru would get into an argument with the Super High School Level Biker, whom he sees as failing society by not being willing to put in the effort to succeed. They would have a battle of endurance in the sauna to prove who had the greater willpower, and they would talk and come to understand each other. By the end of the night Ishimaru would have his first buddy, and they'd be singing each other's virtues.

And during the next class trial, when the evidence starts to point towards his buddy he'd deny it and argue against it. And when everyone is voting for the culprit, he'd still try to deny it and and vote for himself. And he'd loudly weep as his only buddy was executed in front of him, and then not say anything for days.

And when he'd finally begin to speak again, only due to him deluding himself that his buddy's spirit still lives in him, someone would plot his murder.

But that won't happen because the world is getting destroyed.

Powers: Nothing significant! He's fairly athletic (he practices kendo,) but not nearly to the extent of some of his SHSL peers.
Entry: He could... probably use some help. Someone help him. That or he'll stumble in after far longer than it probably ought to have taken.
Other: His blood is pink and this is normal.
